Sir,
M.3751/26.

5608/26
With reference to your letter S.28426, dated
13th January, 1926, I am commanded by My Lords Commission-
ers of the Admiralty to transmit herewith copy of
correspondence which has been received through the
Commodore, Hong Kong, relating to the expenses arising
from the S.S."TUNG ON" prior to 25th July, 1925.
Although it appeared desirable that the Hong
Kong Government should bear a share of the cost of the
Naval Officers and crew of "TUNG O", the proportion
which the Admiralty suggested and which the Treasury
annroved, viz. one-half, was quite arbitrary.
It will be seen that the proportion of one-
half leads to a claim on the Hong Kong Government of
£205.10.1d (1,843 dollars 89 cents). The Colonial
Government on the other hand, offer to make a payment
,
of 876 dollars 45 cents. In view of the small amount
involved, and in the interests of harmonious local
relations, My Lords desire to modify Their claim and to
accept the amount offered by the Colonial Government.
I am to request the sanction of the Lords Commissioners
of the Treasury to this course.
The Secretary,
H.M.Treasury.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(Sgd.) Alex Flirt.
